Two of us visited a friend working in Rwanda and we took the opportunity to see the Gorillas, Golden Monkeys and also spend a day at Akagera. Theo helped us plan our trip and always responded quickly to emails. He was our guide for four days and was excellent, very professional and knowledgeable.

He was also good company instinctively knowing when to chat and when we just wanted to chill and soak up the scenery. Nothing was too much trouble and he accommodated any requests, like finding a place to buy wine at the Volcanos as it was super expensive in the hotel, or taking us to local Rwandan eateries.

We had a fab time in this amazing country due in no small part to Theo helping us to understand the history, culture and the people.

Our family went on a safari at Akagara National Park. Our guide, nicknamed, "Theo," was excellent. He was very knowledgeable, experienced, and spoke English and French fluently. He picked us up promptly at our hotel in Kigai, drove 2 hours to the park, spent 2 days with us on safari, and returned us back to our hotel in Kigali. We had an excellent stay while at the park at Akagara Game Lodge.
Theo was a very experienced guide. At one point during the safari, we faced a herd of elephants who were NOT friendly. They would not let us continue on the dirt road, and they started coming at us. Other elephants flanked the jeep. We were really scared (and we had 2 children with us), but he knew when to back up, and waited until it was safe. Same thing with the hippos. He knew how close to get. He pointed out so many interesting things about the animals' behaviour. He was a wealth of information! He knew all the roads in the park, and knew where to find certain ones. We saw lots of cape buffaloes, zebras, elephants, giraffes, water bucks, topi, bush bucks, baboons, velvet monkeys, wart hogs, impala, hippos, crocs, oribi, saddled billed storks, vultures, grey herons, ducks, king fisher bird, starlings, black headed weavers, fish eagles, cranes, snake bird, cormorant, yellow throated long claws, Harrier Hawks, egrets, hamerkop, and much more. He shared his books to identify animals and birds, too, so we could read more about them. He was very personable, and answered all our many questions. He stopped as long as we wanted to watch the animals.
My daughter lost her cell phone at the end of the first day. It was too dark to find it, so he drove back with us at 5:30 a.m. The next morning, he patiently drove, and helped us scour the landscape. It was a miracle we found it!
I highly recommend the boat ride at the park. We saw so many interesting things, and again, learned so much.
Theo also does gorilla trekking in Rwanda.
So if you need a guide in A4kagera National Park or for gorilla trekking, he is the one to call.
